Thompson: Boyong Van Dijk Will not Give Guarantee
Liverpool football legend Phil Thompson is not convinced Virgil Van Dijk can solve the problem for the heart of the defense team he once defended.
Now the Reds are getting the spotlight especially for their back line which is considered very bad at the start of the summer competition, where from seven English Premier League matches goalkeeper Simon Mignolet recorded has conceded 12 goals which is the most from the top club.
Even recently the club from Merseyside in a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United’s meeting and judging coach Jurgen Klopp in the transfer window in January should immediately bring quality defender. And the name of Van Dijk is said to be very appropriate to strengthen Liverpool’s defense. Interestingly strong signal retainer of the Dutch national team will soon move to Anfield increasingly close to reality.
The reason, ahead of face the Belarusian national team in 2018 World Cup qualifying in the press conference concerned players will signal will soon leave Southampton.
Surprisingly Phil who has given the prestigious title for Liverpool in the era of the ’70 to’ 80s did not agree if bringing Van Dijk is a guarantee the team’s defense will improve.
“Klopp has brought the new players to the defense but they are just good players. There is no great player you think they are their minimum target is the top five, “Phil Thompson told the media.
“I think it tells you what level of defense we have at the moment, so I think it will continue until he can really handle it.
“I myself am not sure if bringing Virgil Van Dijk will solve our problem.
“He’s going to improve our defense but I do not think he’s the type of leader who talks a lot who will solve problems. I want to see the presence of a more real and vocal figure in this team. “
