Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 – The iPhone killer?

So, it’s finally happened yesterday! I’ve been waiting for this moment quite awhile. Actually, I’ve been hoping for an iPhone alike handset from Sony Ericsson since Apple announced the iPhone, which was over a year ago. Looks like my dream have finally come true! The XPERIA X1 Windows Mobile smartphone, announced yesterday, looks very interesting and it’s just what I’ve been waiting to see from Sony Ericsson. It’s a real touchscreen device! Of course Sony Ericsson already has some great touchscreen devices, such as the P1i and the W960i, but now they got something that can really compete with the iPhone.

Even that the XPERIA X1 has a big 3-inch touchscreen it also has QWERTY-keypad, unlike the iPhone, which has only one button. I think Sony Ericsson has made a good choice. Of course, it all depends on how the keypad works in real life. I’m quite confident that it will do its job well.

What will be the big thing in 2008?

Christmas is getting closer and soon it is time to celebrate the new year but before we do that, let's think what Sony Ericsson could be bringing in 2008. What could be the main thing they are consternating on? If we consider this year, I have noticed that Sony Ericsson has been expanding their portfolio a lot. Especially we have seen a lot of mid-end phones. Actually many phones are just redesigns from the old ones. For instance K810i and K770i are basically the same old K800i with a new design. Second thing I have also notices is that Sony Ericsson is releasing their phones in different colors. Just recently W200i got four new colors, W580i came out in pink and so on. These things are definitely referring the fact that Sony Ericsson is trying to appeal to different kind of customers to gain more market share and it seems to be working.

Sony Ericsson speaks about the future of mobile phones

What kind of mobile phones you expect us to have within two years? Sony Ericsson seems to have a very strong image about the future of mobile phones and Bengt Stavenow shared some of his ideas at the Mobile Future conference in Stockholm.

According to Bengt Stavenow at Sony Ericsson, we will see phones with 64 GB of memory within two years and autofocus is one of the key parts of future mobile phones. "here is a megapixel race going on, and it will continue, but there is also a need for increased camera quality. Optical zoom plays a key part here."

Sony Ericsson Maria - iPhone killer?

According to the latest rumor Sony Ericsson's iPhone competitor is codenamed Maria. Since the iPhone was announced in the beginning of 2007 there have been a lot of speculation about Sony Ericsson's iPhone alike device. We have heard codenames, such as MOOI, which was the codename for W960i and now Maria. I'm quite surprised that there's still nothing official out from Sony Ericsson, because other manufactures have already showed what they got. LG got Prada and Nokia recently released the new S60 UI, which looks very much iPhone's UI. Let's hope Sony Ericsson has something new, not just an iPhone copy. Why should people buy the copy if they can have the real deal?

Get all the iPhone's features without having iPhone

You must wonder what a hell am I talking about. Well, you will find out that soon. If you have followed Apple related sites, you have probably noticed that Apple just announced new iPods (nano, iPod Classic, iPod Touch). In case you didn't know this, I will clear things up. The new iPod touch is pretty much the same device that iPhone without the phone feature and that's what makes it a very interesting device. Basically I can nwo have the iPhone. I just need to buy a cheap phone and iPod Touch.

Ipod touch is much more than just a regular iPod. It has the same Multi-touch interface that iPhone has. Touch has Wi-Fi and Safari web browser with all the same features, we have seen in iPhone. Even the design is almost the same. iPod Touch is just a little bit smaller. So, all you need to get is a budget phone and iPod Touch, because with it you can browser the net, manage your calendar and so on. ipod touch can even do YouTube, just like the iPhone.

iPhone now only 399$ - What is Sony Ericsson's answer?

Huh! It finally happened. Apple cut the price of iPhone. The 8GB model costs now only 399 dollars and the 4GB will be available for $299 while supplies last. In my opinion the price is now very reasonable. I might even get one when the iPhone lands in Finland, the Nokia land.

I read from some site that iPhone is the best selling smartphone is USA. It beats Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. And all this happened with the old price! I just wonder what happens now, when the iPhone is 200 dollars cheaper. I guess people who have thought about buying iPhone, will now buy it because of the price drop. I'm in this camp. I will definitely get one if iPhone lands in Finland for 399€

Where's the Playstation phone?

We have Cyber-Shot, Walkman and Japanese even have Bravia branded phones. Sony really knows how to take the advantage of big brands and they have done some great job with their Walkman and Cyber-Shot handsets. Users are guessing what will be the next brand that we will see on Sony Ericsson phones. Maybe it's the Bravia brand, but it's not really a new thing because Sony Ericsson already has phone with Bravia brand in Japan. I guess Bravian brand will come to Europe and America when Sony Ericsson announce the first real TV handset. The next big thing might be a gaming phone and obviously Playstation is the brand to use...

First SE with 5 megapixel camera is coming - Sony Ericsson still behind Nokia?

Sony Ericsson K850i 5 megapixel Cyber-Shot handset was announced while ago, but it's not available yet. Users were waiting for Sony Ericsson to announced 5 megapixel camera phone since Nokia announced the all-in-one device, called N95. Now we know that 5 megapixel device is coming, but do you think Sony Ericsson is still behind Nokia? I'm sure K850i will be a great device and the camera is probably great, but is camera really the only feature that users a looking for? At least I would like to have build-in GPS and WiFi. Nokia N95i have them, but K850i doesn't...

What happens to M600i?

In June Sony Ericsson announced that they won't be releasing any new firmwares for the M600i/P990i/W950i handsets. Users, of course didn't like the decision and soon Sony Ericsson change their mind and announced that they will develope one new firmware for the P990i and W950i. I just wonder where's the M600i? Why they dropped the M600i out? It's basically the same phones as the W950i, so I guess it shouldn't be big effort to relase one new firmware for M600i.

The next big thing?

It's only few weeks back when Sony Ericsson announced the long rumored 5 megapixel cyber shot handset and five other phones. I thought the June 14th announcement would have stopped all the rumors for a while, but I was wrong. That's why I'm writing this article, I'm trying to find out what will be the next big thing. I think we all can agree it won't be a new high-end camera phone. Maybe it will be all in one device or a new smartphone? The all in one device is quite unlikely, because I remember to read some article, where some big guy from Sony Ericsson told that at the moment they don't have plans to bring all in one device.
