iPhone now only 399$ - What is Sony Ericsson's answer?

Huh! It finally happened. Apple cut the price of iPhone. The 8GB model costs now only 399 dollars and the 4GB will be available for $299 while supplies last. In my opinion the price is now very reasonable. I might even get one when the iPhone lands in Finland, the Nokia land.

I read from some site that iPhone is the best selling smartphone is USA. It beats Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. And all this happened with the old price! I just wonder what happens now, when the iPhone is 200 dollars cheaper. I guess people who have thought about buying iPhone, will now buy it because of the price drop. I'm in this camp. I will definitely get one if iPhone lands in Finland for 399€

How will Sony Ericsson react on this sudden price drop? I mean iPhone is still only "a small thing" but if it's the best selling smartphone in USA, they can't count it out. They must start to do something before it's too late.

At the moment Sony Ericsson doesn't have device that can compete with iPhone in terms of storage, but we will see one before the end of the 2007. Sony Ericsson W960i will definitely be a competitor for iPhone. It's a Symbian UIQ smartphone. It has 8GB storage, 3,2 megapixel camera and so on. Sony Ericsson W960i also offers real video playback at 30 frames per second, which is the same as TV quality. Sound like iPhone killer?

I'm sure W960i will a nice device, but the biggest problem is the OS that it's running. It's nothing new. We have already seen that OS in P990i and M600i or even in P1i. The problem is that the OS was very buggy on P990i and M600i and I'm afraid of the fact that they might not have solved all the problems. I hope I'm wrong!

I think Sony Ericsson should...

Create a new OS! We have seen that iPhone is selling so well mainly because of it's OS and of course because it's Apple. If you compare Symbian UIQ and OS X (on iPhone) it's a huge difference! Looks like iPhone is 5 years ahead of Sony Ericsson. I think Sony Ericsson should concentrate on more the OS that their non-smartphones are using. I have always thought it's great OS!
