Sony Ericsson and year 2007

It's again the right time (if there is such a thing as right time) of the year start to speculate what the year 2007 will bring in terms of Sony Ericsson. What new phones we will see in 2007? That’s the big question! In this article you will hear my opinion and everything I say is only speculation, so don't read this too seriously :)

At the moment there is some rumors out there and the I guess that the big rumor is the Ultra Slim Sony Ericsson (K850?, K900?). Motorola's huge success, the RAZR V3 showed that slim phones are in now and I'm quite sure SE will get into this field too. Why shouldn't they?

I have also heard lot of rumors that Sony Ericsson will have very large portfolio in 2007. I guess that's a good thing because Sony Ericsson is growing and if they want to keep it that way they need more phones.

Sony Ericsson's aswer to the Nokia N95?

Few weeks ago Nokia announced the new Nokia N95 multimedia device. So what's so special of this new phone? Well, it has 5 megapixel camera. Yes you heard right, 5 megapixel camera! That's why I want to speculate a little bit what Sony Ericsson is going to do and how they are going to compete with Nokia.

We all know that Sony Ericsson K800i beats or at least it did beat all Nokia phones when it comes to photo quality, but things might changes because N95 sounds a very good device "N95 has an impressive 5 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss optics, autofocus and the capability of recording videos at DVD-like quality." Huh! Sony Ericsson really need to do something and fast, but of course N95 won't be available until the first quarter of 2007.

Sony Ericsson is doing fine in Europe

According to IDC Sony Ericsson increased it's marketshare in Europe during the Q2. Sony Ericsson's marketshare in Europe is now almost 11%, which is almost as much as Samsung's marketshare (12%). According to IDC espesially Sony Ericsson K800i was a success.

Motorola did a good job in Europe too. Motorola's marketshare in Europe is now 17%

Samsung was the biggest loser. It's marketshare declined 4% and it's now only 12%

Which Sony Ericsson phone I should buy?

This question seems to be very popular and I see it almost every day on some Sony Ericsson forum. Everytime people ask the same question: "should I buy XXXX or XXXX phone?" or "Which one is better?" Forums are full of these questions. Usually it's very hard to aswer this kind of question, because the questioner don't give any information, like what kind of phone he or she needs.

Talk time testing, for real

Amobil released an article about real talk times of mobile phones. They talked 45 phones out of power to find out which on is the best.

GSM phones was test in GSM network and 3G phones in the GSM and UMTS network. GSM and UMTS results are separeted because you can't compare them.

Update your Sony Ericsson phone

Is your phone slow? Does is crash sometimes? Those are only the few reasons why you should update your phone regularly. I going to help you a little bit :)

The updating process is quite easy. Depending on yor phone model, you need DSS-25 Deskstand or DCU-60 USB cable. You also need Internet Explorer with Macromedia Flash Player installed. You can only make this update on Windows 2000 or XP, not on Linux or Mac OS X. If you meet these regruiments then you are ready to start.

Go to Sony Ericsson home site. Choose Support and select your phone model from the list. Click Sony Ericsson Update Service and the download the Update software. Open the software that you just downloaded and follow the instructions.

Sony Ericsson's market share

According to Gartner mobile phones demand grew 24 % at Q1. Nokia is still leading, but especially Motorola is growing fast. The biggest loser is Siemens (BenQ). Last year Siemens marker share were 5,7 % and now it's only 3,5 percent! Still I'm quite sure that BenQ-Siemens will start to gain more market share this year.

Sony Ericsson is also growing nicely! last year the market share was 5,5 % and now it's 6,1 percent. I hope that Sony Ericsson will soon reach LG!

Detailed instructions on how to flash your W810

Looking through the threads on this is forum (and DavinciTeams) about flashing the W810 is painful to say the least. The DavinviTeam software documentation is scattered and confusing. I created these instructions for those of you who were getting frustrated about this – like I was. The most helpful post on flashing on this forum came from the user Paco. Thanks Paco for leading the way!
