Sony Ericsson P1i - the new era of P-series

It finally happened! Sony Ericsson announced the "totally" new P-series phone, called P1i. The P1i is the successor of P990i, but if you look at the design, you might think it's a successor of M600i, but it's not, it looks like Sony Ericsson has discovered that the M600i design is better than P990i and it's time to renew the P-series design. I think it's a good thing. I choose M600i over P990i, because it's smaller and lighter. P1i is 25 % smaller than P990i, so it's a big difference. P1i is still a little bit bigger and heavier than the M600i.

Sony Ericsson P1i has the same Symbian UIQ 3.0 OS like the M600i and P990i got but there are some new things like that you can have more shortcuts on your desktop, the OS doesn't really offer anything new. Let's just hope that the OS is more stable and faster than it's on the older models. I'm quite confident that it will be, mainly because P1i has more memory and that's a good thing because Symbian OS is so memory hungry.

So, does the P1i have any other new things than the design? Yes it does! P1i has 3,2 megapixel camera with autofocus. M600i doesn't have camera at all and P990i has 2 megapixel camera with autofocus. P1i also has 160 MB internal memory, which is 100 MB more than P990i has.

Even that P1i is almost like M600i when comes to design it's actually a little bit bigger (106 x 55 x 17 mm vs. 105 x 54 x 15 mm) and heavier (124g vs. 112g), so M600i is still the smallest smartphone in Sony Ericssons portfolio.

In the future it's nice to see how Sony Ericsson will continue to develop the M-series phones. I don't think there's no idea to announce M600i successor with camera and the same old design, because P1i has all those features... Maybe they could announce smartphone without QWERTY. It would be just a basic phone with Symbian OS. I think that would be good move.
