So, it’s finally happened yesterday! I’ve been waiting for this moment quite awhile. Actually, I’ve been hoping for an iPhone alike handset from Sony Ericsson since Apple announced the iPhone, which was over a year ago. Looks like my dream have finally come true! The XPERIA X1 Windows Mobile smartphone, announced yesterday, looks very interesting and it’s just what I’ve been waiting to see from Sony Ericsson. It’s a real touchscreen device! Of course Sony Ericsson already has some great touchscreen devices, such as the P1i and the W960i, but now they got something that can really compete with the iPhone.
Even that the XPERIA X1 has a big 3-inch touchscreen it also has QWERTY-keypad, unlike the iPhone, which has only one button. I think Sony Ericsson has made a good choice. Of course, it all depends on how the keypad works in real life. I’m quite confident that it will do its job well.
From the list above, you can see that both devices have something that the competitor doesn’t have. iPhone has bigger screen and more internal memory, in the other hand, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 has more pixels and better camera with autofocus and photo light. In my opinion, if we only look at the specifications, the X1 is the winner. Of course, we need to remember that iPhone was announced over a year ago and the XPERIA X1 won’t be available any time soon. Apple has enough time to announce iPhone 2 with UMTS support and better camera.
Like I mentioned the XPERIA X1 is just what I’ve been waiting for. It has big touchscreen, GPS, QWERTY-keypad, HSDPA and nice design with metal-finish. I was pretty sure that we will see this kind of device sooner or later but the surprise was that it has Windows Mobile OS. When it comes to Windows Mobile, I’m a total newbie and I’m very interested to see how it works. I just had the P1i for a few weeks and I still think that the UIQ 3 isn’t good enough. I hope XPERIA offers something better. iPhone’s best feature was the new OS.
I’m very excited to see what happens to UIQ. Is Sony Ericsson going to continue developing the UIQ or will they switch to Windows Mobile? Of course, yesterday we got new UIQ 3 devices too (G700 and G900), so at the moment it looks that Sony Ericsson will keep developing the UIQ. It’s also nice to see how much the X1 will cost.
What you think about the XPERIA X1? Leave a comment or discuss more about the X1 in the forum.

I honestly think it's about time we drop the subject of branding which phone is the next "iPhone killer". Many said it was the SE W960i, with it's touchscreen functions and 8GB memory on-board. And now we're looking at this new release by SE and going,"Ah that's the killer." Soon it'd probably be another phone that would get that "burden" of living up to people's expectations to be a Goliath that would rival the iPhone. Perhaps I don't know, or don't see how much the iPhone is worth being the subject of every phone comparison but I do awe the greatness in the iPhone and all it's capabilities. However let's all be original and stop this retardation that is finding an iPhone killer. Let phones stand out on it's own functions and speciality and not being compared to the iPhone.
Final word: The iPhone is great, but let's move on from finding it's killer and start on giving new phones it's own aura. After all, no one(thing for this matter) likes to live under the shadows of it rival's phones. I'm sure we all like to stand out for our own uniqueness.
