Sony Ericsson and year 2007

It's again the right time (if there is such a thing as right time) of the year start to speculate what the year 2007 will bring in terms of Sony Ericsson. What new phones we will see in 2007? That’s the big question! In this article you will hear my opinion and everything I say is only speculation, so don't read this too seriously :)

At the moment there is some rumors out there and the I guess that the big rumor is the Ultra Slim Sony Ericsson (K850?, K900?). Motorola's huge success, the RAZR V3 showed that slim phones are in now and I'm quite sure SE will get into this field too. Why shouldn't they?

I have also heard lot of rumors that Sony Ericsson will have very large portfolio in 2007. I guess that's a good thing because Sony Ericsson is growing and if they want to keep it that way they need more phones.

Walkman will keep going on!

I think that we all have to admit that Walkman series was a great move and I'm sure Walkman series will keep going on in the future too. Everyone is guessing when mobile phones will replace iPods and if and when this happens I'm sure that Sony Ericsson will have a strong position.

So, then the big question - What new W-series phone we will see in year 2007? Well, if I have to make a guess and I of course I will - I think it's only matter of time when we will see a new Walkman phone with 3,2 megapixel camera (W1000?). I'm surprised if that won't happen in Q1.

I'm sure Sony Ericsson will continue to develop the walkman player for mobile phones because it's only a matter of time when Apple will introduce it's first iPhone. iPod has a very large market share so we can be sure that iPhone will get users. How much? We can't be sure but you can't ignore Apple because it's growing fast! So, maybe we will see Walkman player 3,0 next year.

More megapixels?

I already wrote article "Sony Ericsson aswer to the Nokia N90?" and in that article I talk about Sony Ericsson's new camera phones, which hopefully will have 5 or at least 4 megapixel CyberShot camera.

Sony Ericsson K800i isn't very new phone anymore and I'm sure that soon we will see new CyberShot phone with 4 or 5-mega pixel camera. Sony Ericsson has always been quite good with camera phones...

How about the smartphones?

Sony Ericsson P990i is finally out and I'm not sure if we will see any new P-series phones next year or maybe the long rumored P1000i will be out next year? Who knows? Of course I might be totally wrong, but I think M600i successor (M650i?, M700i?) is much more likely and it's quite obvious what features the new M-series phone will have...

It's also possible that Sony Ericsson will star to use Symbian OS in K- and W-series phones... Actually W950 already has Symbian OS!

I still think that Sony Ericsson's OS is so great that they shouldn't forget that totally. Symbian is slower and harder to use than the SE's OS.

Sony Ericsson BRAVIA, PSP?

First Walkman then CyberShot... What will be the next big thing? If I have to make a guess - It's definitely BRAVIA. Japan already got their first BRAVIA phone (Sony Ericsson W44s BARVIA phone), which has 3" QVGA display with BRAVIA RealityMax technology.

At the moment Sony Ericsson doesn't have any gaming phones, which is a little bit odd because gaming will be very important part of mobile phones in the future. Maybe we could see Sony Ericsson PSP phone next year? I think it's quite unlikely but it might happen.

Conclusion

That's my point of view and all what I just said might be totally wrong, so it's possible that I have just wasted 10 minutes of your life :P but don't worry, now you can tell your point of view in our mobile phone forum.
