Dee Dutta decided to leave Sony Ericsson and now they have appointed new Head of Marketing.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications announces today that Lennard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President and Head of Asia-Pacific region, Sony Ericsson, has been appointed as the new Head of Marketing effective April 1, 2008.

Head of Marketing to leave Sony Ericsson at end of March

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications announces today that Dee Dutta, Corporate Vice President and Head of Marketing, has decided to leave the company on 31st March 2008.

Dee joined Sony Ericsson in 2002, and since 2003 he has held the role of Head of Marketing. During his time at Sony Ericsson he has built the marketing organisation throughout the company, and under his leadership the Sony Ericsson brand has climbed to No 2 in Brand Purchase Consideration. Through the sponsorship of tennis, particularly the Women’s Tennis Association Tour, he has extended the reach of the Sony Ericsson brand across the world.

Sony Ericsson sees moderating growth in the first quarter of 2008

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications today announces that moderating sales growth of mobile phone units is expected to negatively impact net sales and net income before tax for the first quarter of 2008. Slowing market growth of mid-to-high end phones in markets where Sony Ericsson has a strong presence is affecting sales. In addition, certain component shortages for popular mid-priced phones have contributed to modest unit sales growth in the first quarter.

Sony Ericsson has filed another patent, called "Portable electronic device with multiple input interfaces".

An electronic device has a main body, a flip attached to the main body and multiple input interfaces. A first input interface is disposed on the main body of the electronic device. Second and third input interfaces are disposed on apposing sides of the flip. The flip covers at least a part of the first input interface when the flip is in a closed position. The flip is rotatable so that either the second or third interface can be selectively used when the flip is in the closed position.

Sony Ericsson Appoints iris to Manage its Global Activation Strategy

Sony Ericsson has announced that it has appointed integrated marketing agency iris to handle its global activation strategy, following a competitive pitch. As its global activation agency, iris will be responsible for implementing integrated campaigns across all of Sony Ericsson’s sports marketing properties, retail business and sales promotion work.

The appointment is part of Sony Ericsson’s move to increase integration across all of its marketing activity as well as drive efficiency and greater consumer engagement. With this is mind, iris will also provide strategic and creative leadership for Sony Ericsson’s $88m global title sponsorship of the Sony Ericsson Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour.

Sony Ericsson might end its partnership with DoCoMo

Recently there has been some discussion about Sony Ericsson's and DoCoMo's partnership. According to Nikkei business daily, Sony Ericsson said on Monday that they will stop mobile phone development and production for DoCoMo, and that it would instead procure handsets from other mobile phone makers and supply them to DoCoMo under the Sony Ericsson brand.

Although, Sony Ericsson spokesman Toshiyuki Kawamura rushed to deny this rumor. He sai that the firm had no plans to terminate product development for DoCoMo phones and that it had no intention to buy phones from other Japanese cellphone makers on an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) basis for shipments to DoCoMo.

UK Retail - Top 10 handsets, week commencing 29/2/08

The Mobile Choice website provides the "weekly bestsellers" list, which shows the best selling phones in the UK. There are two list. The first one shows best selling contract phones and the second one best selling prepay phones.

In both top 10 lists Nokia and Sony Ericsson are having a strong position.

The campaign has been built around the W890i slim Walkman handset and with this campaign Sony Ericsson is trying to create the longest song in the world and of course they need your help. SymbianOne interviewed Mats Barvesten - WVGA UIQ phone is on the road map

SymbianOne posted an interesting interview with Mats Barvesten, EVP Product Planning and Product Management at UIQ Technology. Before moving to UIQ Technology in June 2007, he worked at Sony Ericsson for three years planning the product portfolio, so he has a good knowledge of Sony Ericsson.

The first thing they asked from Mats Barvesten was how surprised he was to see Sony Ericsson smartphone based on Windows Mobile:

I came to UIQ Technology from Sony Ericsson in June last year. At Sony Ericsson I had been involved in planning the product portfolio for three years, so for me it was not a surprise.

Krusell - TOP-10 selling phones in February 2008

By taking seven out of ten positions, Nokia is in total lead of the Krusell Top 10 list for February. It is rather fascinating to see that no other brand than Nokia and Sony Ericsson are represented in the list this month, says Ulf Sandberg MD at Krusell. At least for the next month I will expect to see one of the units from HTC, Apple and Samsung making a comeback.
