Sony Ericsson's new CEO talks to the Press

Hideki Komiyama

Sony Ericsson's new CEO, Komiyama talks about the company's future. Hideki Komiyama told to Reuters that Sony Ericsson is giving high priority to North America, on of its global weak spots, in 2008. He also believes that Sony Ericsson is able to overtake at least one of its rivals to become a global top three mobile phone maker in the next few years.

Sony Ericsson is gaining more market share but according to Komiyama Sony Ericsson isn't looking for a quick jump in market share. He wants to keep the company profitable. "Even as we gain market share we must be profitable at the low end of the market. We are not necessarily looking for a quick jump in market share."

Sony Ericsson signs Maria Sharapova in Landmark Off-Court Deal

Maria Sharapova

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications has announced today that it has signed an exclusive four year sponsorship agreement with female tennis player, Maria Sharapova, to become the company’s first global brand ambassador.

The stunning and talented Russian, who turns 21 in April this year, will undertake a series of innovative new consumer brand campaigns specifically designed to engage Sony Ericsson’s core target audiences and to utilise Maria away from the tennis court.

Maria will also be working with Sony Ericsson’s design team on a range of products and accessories.

The off-court agreement complements Sony Ericsson’s 6 year $88 million global title sponsorship of the WTA Tour which was signed in January 2005 and is the biggest deal in the history of women’s sport. Sony Ericsson’s commitment to women’s tennis has energised the game by bringing fans closer to the experience and taking the sport to new audiences through cutting edge initiatives like night tennis – a fusion of tennis, fashion, music and dance.

Sony Ericsson P1i clone has two SIM slots

Fake P1i

When it comes to clone phones, Chinese are on the top. This time they have taken the P1i's design, but they have left many Sony Ericsson P1i's key features out. This fake P1i doesn't have UIQ 3 and they have also dropped out the QWERTY-keypad. Sounds like a fast copy! Anyways, this phones does have FM-radio, camera, TV Receiver and one very cool feature. It has two sim slots, which is a feature that I would love to see in real Sony Ericsson phones.

This Gold Star P1i ships with charger, 2 batteries, stereo earphone, USB-cable and 1GB MicroSD card.

Ask.com Mobile launched a voice activated direction service

Ask.com logo

Wouldn't it be great to do a search by speaking instead of keying them in? Well, Ask.com has taken its first step in integrating voice with Ask.com Mobile. They have added a new option to their Directions service called Click to Speak. The feature lets Ask.com Mobile users enter addresses by speaking instead of keying them in. With just a click, users can activate a voice activated directions service and within seconds receive a text message with a link to directions.

In my opinion this sounds pretty cool and I definitely would like to see more this kind of features. I hope Ask.com will add this feature to the regular Mobile search. Typing is always a slow way to do things with mobile phone, because of the keypad. I wonder when Google will add similar features to their mobile search?

It's the Sony Ericsson W52S, umm... I mean the iPhone

W52S iPhone

I thought in Japan they would already have something similar to iPhone. I guess that's not true or this Japanese guy is just such a big fan of the Apple's iPhone that he decided to turn his Sony Ericsson Walkman W52S slider to an iPhone. I'm not sure if it was a good idea, because in my opinion this W52S, I mean iPhone looks awful! Anyways, I hope this guy is happy with his new iPhone, heh.

Create your own Sony Ericsson Snowglobe

SE snowglobe

Sony Ericsson has again created a quite nice but useless site, which really doesn't have anything to do with mobile phones. This site is Sony Ericsson's gift for loyal customers. The site allows you to create a simple snowglobe, which can be send to friends or if you want you can download it to your phone. If you don't feel creative, you can just choose ready made snowglobe, but if you do feel a bit creative, you just need to follow few steps to create your own personal snowgblobe.

Take a look at the site here.
