Sony Ericsson's new naming scheme?

Have you ever wonder what is the meaning of model names, such as the K850i? I'm not sure if there's a any meaning but according to m-one at se-world Sony Ericsson will be changing their naming scheme and in the future all number will have a meaning. All the model names will still have the same format, a letter followed by three numbers. Sony Ericsson is also giving up the "i" character in the end of the model name. The R300 and the R302 are the first phones that follows this new nomenclature.

So, how this new naming scheme works? Well, take a look at the photo below:

Sony Ericsson naming scheme

Like before, the first letter tells us the series. "W" is for Walkman, "C" is for Cyber-shot, "S" is for snapshot, "X" is for XPERIA, "G" is for Generation Web and so on. The first number shows us whether the phone is high-end, mid-end of low-end handsets. 9 is the highest and 1 is the lowest. The next number is a bit hard to explain but it got something to do with with versions. For instance, C902 successor should be C912. The last number tells us the form factor.

Hmm, just so you know - the picture you've included in this post does not come from SE-World.

Ok. I didn't know that. I found this image from JAMPB:

No worries. It originates from my blog, but to be quite honest JUSTAMP is one of the most crappiest websites to give correct (if any) references.

Also, the picture in this post has the same name as the one originally posted at my blog ;-)

That's true what you said about the JUSTAMP but the author seems to be fast...
