WidSets - Mobile Widgets

I'm sure many of you have heard the word Widgets or Gadgets (like Microsoft call them) before and if you are using Mac OS X Tiger or Windows Vista you are probably familiar with them. For those who don't know anything about Widgets, I will clear things up a little bit. Basically Widgets are just mini-applications that brings information from net, for example You could have a RSS-feed Widget or weather Widget.

There are over 1400 Widgets available, according to WidSets and all of them are free. You can also easily create your own widget with the net application.

To get WidSets Widgets on your phone you need to register at www.widsets.com and then you will receive download link via SMS. Then you are ready to go. You can eaily do all the modifications via you computer and WidSets automatically updates your phone.

WidSets service is owned by Nokia, but it doesn't mean that it will only work with Nokia phones. Actually WidSets is currently compatible with more than 300 mobile phones. Basically all need is a phone that supports Java MIDP 2.0, but the best way to to find out, if phone is compatible with WidSets Widgets, is to download the Java app and try out some widget.

I just tried out these mobile Widgets with my Sony Ericsson M600i and I'm quite impressed. The WidSets Java app works great on my phone. I also tried out few Widgets and they worked well too. I'm sure I will use this service more.
